Puzzles
There are all kinds of them... Life's the big one. OK,then. Let's have them. First the obvious: You have 9 marbles - 8 marbles that weigh 1 ounce each, & 1 marble that weighs 1.5 ounces. You are unable to determine which is the heavier marble by looking at them. You have a weighing scale that consists of 2 pans, but the scale is only good for 2 total weighings. How can you determine which marble is the heaviest 1 using the scale, & in 2 weighings? The answer - but think first! This is a contribution from Classic & Logic Puzzles by William F. Bultas. Braingames Webguide is another good site for puzzles.
Then water puzzles, a type of problem-solving for venturers. To solve these puzzles, pour water between glasses. Click here for waterpuzzles.
Click here for the whole site, Cut The Knot, by Alex Bogomolny. Then we have chess, maybe the biggest puzzle of them all. We recommend Kasparovs official site and the site of the Swedish Correspondence Players for a platform.
For the devoted we suggest chess-poster.com, especially the history-chapter. If you're in for curiosities we recommend Tim Krabbe's Chess Curiosities. A correspondence player, myself, I have lots to tell you about chess. A particular game, I'm preparing for a german site (http://www.thomasstock.com), an unusual King's Gambit. Have a look if you like! For our Swedish readers we recommend Lars Fröjmarks puzzles. We will soon give you more links for puzzles.
