Before Alaska became valued for its minerals, its gold, the nature and its forests, it was sarcastically called Icebergia eller Walrussia. Alternatively it was called Seward's Icebox or Seward's Folly. It was William Seward who made the purchase from Russia possible, in 1867. At that time it was named Russian America, so Walrussia was rather ingenious, don't you agree!? If you want history and nature combined, please visit Prehistory of Alaska where, apart from the prehistory, all 15 National Parks are described. At Alaska Society of Outdoor and Nature Photographers you get other aspects of nature. Only a few facts? OK, then visit Fast Facts at www.50states.com
